Official: EU wants Ukraine to remain Russian gas transit state
BRUSSELS, May 25 (PRIME) -- The European Commission is interested in retaining the transit of Russian gas across Ukraine in the long term, European Commission Vice President for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic said on Friday at a conference.
“Ukraine is a crucial path of the Russian gas transit to Europe… The European Commission thinks that Ukraine must remain an important transit country after the termination (of the current) transit contract between Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom. Continuation of a long-term transit of Russian gas across Ukraine is strategically important,” Sefcovic said.
